I believe it was Karl Lagerfeld as quoted saying that “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants.”
Today looking back at that quote, it couldn’t be more further than the truth. As we continue to live through a pandemic wearing sweatpants is a sign that you are ready to unsubscribe to the pressure of the fashion industry. Now you are in control. You have the power to redefine your style and mould it around the changes to your life.
Fashion today is about embodying how you feel without the expectation to put your best fashion foot forward. No one is scrutinising what you are wearing on a daily basis. You no longer have the pressure of following an out of date dress code in the office. There is now a sense of freedom and choice to really explore what style is for you in this new world.
Style has always been about representing how you feel. If you feel like wearing sweats all day, do it. If you feel like dressing up every day, then do that too. Now is the time to rip up the rulebook and start from fresh, creating a new fashion story as life continues during this pandemic.
How to wear sweatpants
Jogging trousers are not only a casual trouser that can be worn lounged around the house. Depending on how you style it, they can become the perfect off duty companion when you want to do your daily walk, catch up with friends or run some errands.
WINTER DAYS
One of the best ways to style jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt is by pairing the look with an overcoat. Because of the sartorial aesthetic of the coat, it helps take your look from the sofa to the streets.
THE NEW OFFICE ATTIRE
Formal is a thing of the past. However, that doesn’t mean you have to do away with your blazer. Style your favourite blazer, single or double-breasted with your favourite sweats for the perfect smart casual look.
KNITWEAR
Sweatpants don’t always have to be worn with a sweatshirt. Switch it up once in a while and pair with something just as comfortable. Knitwear. Opt for a cardigan or a knitted polo or your favourite roll neck.
THE STANDARD
It doesn’t get better than a standard sweat combo. Colour is key when putting a sweat look together. Create a Monochromatic look or play with different colours.

THE SHIRT
Introduce a layering piece to get creative in your sweatpants look. A flannel shirt will keep you warm and also trendy whilst indoors.
These are just a few of the many looks that you can get creative with when styling sweatpants. When there is less pressure involved in getting dressed there is a return to the creative and fun side to getting dressed.
