Just because there is a ban from leaving the house, does not give you an excuse to neglect your fashion during isolation. One of my favourite ways to remain sane during this new COVID-19 lifestyle is to create a routine that somewhat resembles normality. You know, that period when you could go outside and see humans.Â
In the world of fashion, that involves getting up each morning and creating an outfit that reflects your mood regardless if you have nowhere to go.
Yes, you are confined to your house, but, there are still instances where you have to show yourself to the world. From work zoom calls to catching up with friends via Houseparty. These new communication rules require you to show everyone that you have your life together and you can do that in part, with what you choose to wear.
Here are my tips on how to be fashionable during a lockdown.
1. FOCUS ON THE BASICS
Now that all your time is at home, you can strike the perfect balance between fashion and comfort without having to wear your pyjamas. Casualwear and athleisure are a fashionable yet simplistic way to be comfy. You can present a stylish aesthetic to your friends and colleagues, showing that you have not given up presenting your best self.
My go-to’s are basic / 90’s logo sweatshirts styled with denim.
2. GO SMART CASUAL
If like me, you have a corporate job and need to engage in regular video calls via, Slack, or Microsoft Teams you still need to be presentable at all times. One way to do this is to jump into the world of smart casual and choose the best tops to show your colleagues you have your work life together. Think polo necks, a casual shirt. And please don’t forget about the bottom half of your look.
3. FOCUS ON THE ACCESSORIES
During my first lockdown week, I cracked the code for adding versatility to my look. Accessories. Be creative with your outfit each day by incorporating jewellery, eyewear and headwear to up your fashion credibility. I like to wear a bandana on my super casual days along with glasses, and a necklace.
4. DRESS UP ONCE A WEEK
Dressing up indoors is the lockdown equivalent of going out. Throw on a smart shirt, a blazer or your favourite outfit and get into that nightlife mood. Do your hair and put on perfume and create the ultimate nightlife illusion.
5. DENIM WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BACK
What better way to show how easy it is to look presentable with the help of denim. There are many ways you can create a fashionable look with the help of jeans, a denim shirt or a denim jacket.Â
6. SET A FASHION CHALLENGE
When it comes to working from home, switching things up and creating a challenge is a great way to add fun into your lockdown fashion. A challenge could be to wear one colour for a whole week or to wear the same thing in five different ways each day. The only limit is your imagination.
