The puffer jacket has fast become one of my most frequently worn coat of the fall season. The down-filled jacket has navigated me through some of the coldest winter days in London, and I often wonder how I ever survived without it.
While the puffer jacket ticks all the practicality boxes, it does lack in the aesthetic departments.
There are some days where I catch myself my reflection on the train, looking like what can only be described as a Michelin man.
I can’t be the only one who has struggled with looking stylish when wearing this winter jacket. To help me and anyone who has struggled to incorporate a puffer jacket into their style, here are my favourite ways to style a puffer jacket.
Nothing goes quite as well with a puffer jacket than a hoodie, style with denim and sneakers for a casual layered look.
Switch up the hoodie for a winter knit. The warmth of the sweater with the puffer jacket ensures you are warm without the need for bulky layers. Finish the look with white lace-up sneakers.
Swap out the denim and sweater with chinos and a roll neck for a casual contemporary weekend look.
While navy, black and khaki are classic colours for outerwear, experiment with unexpected colours such as white or bold primary colours. One way to style white is by carrying the colour of your puffer jacket through the rest of your outfit. Creating a monochromatic winter look.
Up the smart factor by introducing a shirt and crew-neck combo. Introduce a longer length puffer coat for added warmth, an ideal silhouette for taller guys.
The puffer jacket leans more to a casual wardrobe but can easily be adapted into a formal look. When wearing a suit, the trick is not to go for a bulky silhouette, instead opting for a mid to lightweight style that doesn’t overpower the sartorial style of your suit.
The last styling look is a simple yet modern look which is centred around a lighter puffer style. Wear with cropped trousers and match the colour of your socks with your tee.
