The puffer jacket has fast become one of my most frequently worn coat of the fall season. The down-filled jacket has navigated me through some of the coldest winter days in London, and I often wonder how I ever survived without it.
While the puffer jacket ticks all the practicality boxes, it does lack in the aesthetic departments. There are some days where I catch myself my reflection on the train, looking like what can only be described as a Michelin man.
I can’t be the only one who has struggled with looking stylish when wearing this winter jacket. To help me and anyone who has struggled to incorporate a puffer jacket into their style, here are my favourite ways to style a puffer jacket.
Nothing goes quite as well with a puffer jacket as a hoodie, style with denim and sneakers for a casual layered look.
Go super casual by swapping the denim for track pants for an off duty look. Try matching the colour of the hoodie to the joggers for a monochromatic look.
If sweats are not your thing, try chinos and your favourite winter knit. The thickness of the jumper with the puffer jacket ensures you are warm without the need for bulky layers. Finish the look with Chelsea boots.
While navy, black and khaki are classic colours for outerwear, experiment with unexpected colours such as white or bold primary colours. One way to style white is by carrying the colour of your puffer jacket through the rest of your outfit, creating a monochromatic winter look.
Up the smart factor by introducing a shirt and crew-neck combo. Introduce a longer length puffer coat for added warmth, an ideal silhouette for taller guys.
A suit is usually styled with a tailored overcoat, but that is the obvious choice. Instead, go down the unexpected route by clashing formal and casual with a puffer and tailoring combo.
For a streetwear look try an oversized puffer styled with the latest trendy pieces such as the cargo trousers and chunky sneakers.
The last styling look is a simple yet modern outfit which is centred around a lighter puffer style. Wear with cropped trousers and match the colour of your socks with your tee.
