It’s time to start laying your summer wardrobe to rest. Say goodbye to linen, and short sleeves and say hello to cashmere and knitwear. I’m not sure how your summer was where you live, but Summer in London was a non-event. I can’t wait to vacuum pack my under-utilised summer wardrobe and embrace the return of the best season. Autumn.
Here are my tips on how to transition your wardrobe from summer to autumn.
LINEN TO WOOL
Linen only has a place in warm weather. Swap it out with wool. From outerwear to lightweight knitwear, wool will offer you warmth when the temperature starts to dip to single digits.
BLOUSON TO TRENCH
Jackets have no place in summer, but I always pack a blouson just in case. For your Autumn, the coat you need to be lightweight, but you can introduce longer length gearing up for winter. That’s where the trench comes in.
BRIGHT COLOURS TO EARTH TONES
Switch your lavenders and pastel pinks for rich autumn colours such as camel, burgundy and browns.
PRINT TO MONOCHROME
From stripes to resort prints it’s easier to be tempted to carry over your summer prints into Autumn. Instead, go monochromatic and wear the same colour tones to create a harmonious colour story.
ANKLE TO TUBE SOCKS
You’ve had all summer to show off your bare ankles. Do yourself a favour and give your ankles a good cover-up. You can still achieve the cropped trousers look, this time experimenting with colours socks.
SHORTS TO TAILORED TROUSERS
Cover your legs with tailored trousers with a pronounced front crease. Style with a T-shirt, knitwear or roll neck, pair with an overcoat and toy have one of most basic autumn looks.
TREND TO CLASSIC SUNGLASSES
Summer was all about rocking the trendiest sunglasses. This season it’s time to go back to a classic shape. Think round or wayfarer lenses.
NECKTIE TO SCARF
Tying the bandana around my neck was an essential summer look for me and a festival go-to. Update the style with a scarf in a lightweight wool or cashmere.
ESPADRILLES TO BOOTS
Your footwear should always be incorporated into how you build your outfit. With espadrilles firmly stowed away, your desert or Chelsea boots can shine.
SLEEVELESS VESTS TO GILET
The sun is out, but your guns shouldn’t be. Instead, swap your sleeveless vest for a sleeveless gilet. Layer over a shirt for extra warmth.
If you follow these seasonal swaps, your wardrobe should be ready to carry you through Autumn Winter.
