One of the most overlooked parts of building the perfect wardrobe is knowing how to take care of your clothes, ensuring they last for the longest time possible. This means reading the weather and knowing what clothing items are best to wear. Taking the time to store and clean your clothes ready for the next time you wear them.
All these little habits will help increase the longevity of your wardrobe, helping save money in the process.
When it comes to sneakers, there are bad habits that will slowly ruin the appearance, forcing you to throw them out and get a new pair.
If you want to avoid this fate, here are six ways not to destroy your sneakers.
1. DON’T RUN
Don’t run for the bus or the tube. Take pride in the fact that you will be late. Is it worth the crease? Hell no. Once that crease appears it’s all you will notice when staring down at your sneakers, reminiscing about the time when it wasn’t there. Ah, the good times.
2. WALK WITHOUT BENDING YOUR FEET
Whenever you bend your feet, you create creases in your sneakers. The more repetitive your bending becomes, the deeper the crease becomes. While wrinkles are inevitable, you can slow down the process by adopting a flat foot technique. This technique extends to the workplace. I have a bad habit of bending my foot when I sit at my desk. Don’t follow my bad example and instead, plant your flat feet on the floor.
3. AVOID THE RAIN
Wearing sneakers in the rain is one of the most damaging ways to ruin your footwear. Get in the habit of checking your favourite weather app so you can accurately match your shoe to the weather condition.
4. USE A SHOE HORN
No one wants the back of their shoe to collapse from laziness. Invest in a shoehorn and get in the habit of using it every time you wear your shoes.
5. MAINTAIN THE SHAPE
Stuff your sneakers with newspaper, or if you have money to burn, buy a shoe tree, this will help maintain the shape.
6. CLEAN YOUR SHOES EVERYDAY
For my leather lace-ups, I always take a wipe and clean them down at the end of the day. Especially the styles that have a white sole. If you leave it too long before you give it a clean, you might find the dirt harder to remove like an annoying friend.
